Fire Destroys 13 buldings, 15 vehicles in Onitsha, Nigeria - SEMA



An inferno, on Wednesday night, razed down a filling station, 15 cars and thirteen homes alongside the upper New market road, Onitsha, destroying property well worth hundreds of thousands of Naira, the Police has showed.

The Police Public relations Officer within the country, ASP Nkeiruka Nwode, and the govt Director of the kingdom Emergency control agency (SEMA), Dr. Paul Odenigbo, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Onitsha, Anambra on Thursday.

Nwode said that 3 suspected hoodlums had been arrested last night at some point of the operation to extinguish the fire.

“We handiest have 5 houses burnt; we have like 15 motors burnt and five Keke NAPEP and that i want to thank the Almighty God that there was no existence misplaced. We best had some people with accidents who had been taken to the sanatorium as at the time we had been right here closing night.”

Nwode said that some shanty houses around fueled the fire and recommended the human beings to desist from conducting sports that heighten failures.

In the meantime, an eyewitness advised NAN that the fireplace began at approximately 8PM while an articulated car laden with gasoline, fell internal Mobil filling station through DMGS Roundabout.

The eyewitness stated that gas from the tanker flowed down the street thru the drain, spreading the hearth.

The source said that the inferno affected components of a popular building known as Kamo Plaza, wherein two banks have their places of work, however caused minimum damages.

MChinelo Onyeuna, a victim and supervisor of Bencash funding Nig. Ltd., a agency that deals on electronics and fixtures, said she misplaced goods well worth N100 million to the fireplace.

“We had so many goods worth over N100 million. Just have a look at our plaza, it's been burnt down completely. What i am saying is that government should prevent these kinds of human beings running filling stations near residential buildings,” Onyeuna said whilst appealing for authorities assistance.


Every other victim, Juana Oboli, from Onitsha, stated she misplaced her residential building which she had laboured for 12 years to build.

Oboli, a public servant with the Nigerian jail carrier, Awka, who disclosed that she is a widow, urged the state government to assist her get over her loss.

“I struggled for greater than 12 years to finish the residence once I misplaced my husband; I want authorities to intrude because I don’t have anyone else to assist me in this example,” Oboli appealed.
