Militants to Dickson - "You Have Only 48 Hours ultimatum over alleged assault on Briggs"

An amalgam of militant organizations referred to as the Joint progressive Council (JRC) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Bayelsa kingdom Governor Seriake Dickson to apologise to Ijaw girl activist, Annkio Briggs or face their anger.

The JRC stated it held Dickson accountable for the alleged assault on her and others during a latest non violent protest in Bayelsa.

Briggs turned into assaulted with the aid of hoodlums in Yenagoa, Bayelsa kingdom capital every week ago to protest the allocation of 1, 2 hundred hectares of land to Fulani herdsmen for cattle grazing.

The protesters had assembled at Tombia Junction, the take-off point, in Yenagoa and Briggs turned into reportedly addressing the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, his men and the collection at the motive of the protest whilst thugs unhindered, pounced, assaulting her and others.

In line with the spokesperson of the JRC, Cynthia Whyte yesterday, if Governor Dickson didn't apologise “key agitating groups in the country could be activated to undermine the Dickson government.”

She said: “within that 48-hour space, key agitating corporations will first renounce amnesty after which begin collection of activities to force domestic our factor and function. It is unfortunate that the equal government which many Ijaws struggled and clamoured to win the 2016 elections would now turn out to be a government of tyranny, incompetence and ineptitude,” JRC stated.

Whyte stated: “it's miles unfortunate that nowadays, the identical bandit elements, armed robbers and unrepentant hardened criminals, who worked in opposition to Governor Dickson’s 2d term are the equal band of renegades that could be hired to mug, mob and assault Annkio Briggs and her fellow protesters.

“This represents the fullness of treachery and tyranny. We will now not permit this to take place in Bayelsa state, the cradle of Ijaw country,” the JRC assertion alleged.
