
An auto crash has claimed 2 lives and injuring 60 people on the Potiskum-Damaturu highway, in Yobe state.
Daily Trust reports that the accident occurred around 9:30am on Friday.
One of the accident survivors, Adamu Muhammad, said they boarded the car (Mitsubishi Canter Truck) from Potiskum to attend a wedding at Ibra village when the accident happened.
"The driver lost control and we veered into the bush. We were 62 in the car mostly youths. Two died instantly, leaving 60 us injured", he said.
A confident source at General Hospital Potiskum confirmed receiving 2 copses and sixty people injured.
"Almost 20 of those injured are in a critical condition, we are doing our best to save their lives" he added.
He said the corpses have been deposited at the hospital Morgue.
While Police, Vigilante and Red Cross personnel were seeing assisting the victims in the Hospital.
Confirming the incident, the staff officer operations of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Potiskum, said the accident was fatal.
"But, our personnel had responded promptly to the accident scene and rescued the victims to the hospital. we are still compiling the record of the casualties ".
He attributed the accident to overload and overspending by the the truck driver.
"We always warned drivers to desists from this reckless act, overloading which ultimately results in killing of innocent lives", he said.
He added that FRSC would sanction heavily any driver caught driving against traffic while calling on passengers to also complain against such drivers breaking this violation.
